Why & How India bounded in the shackles of Slavery ? Read to know India's quest for Freedom !
Looks Interesting , Let’s Start
It all started back in 1600 AD when Britishers came to India as traders
in the form of East India Company with exclusive right to trade in India. Back
then no one really knew what intention they really had. In 1765 , EIC obtained
Diwani of Bengal , Orissa and Bihar.
Simultaneously the weakened
Mughal empire worked as a fuel for the expansion of East India Company
like fire. The great Mughal Empire
declined during first half of eighteenth century. The Mughal emperors lost
their power and their empire shrank to around the region of Delhi. In 1803 ,
Delhi itself was occupied by British Army and Mughals‘s status reduced to the
status of pensioners.
Britishers brought various acts in order to administrate India and the Charter Act of 1833 laid foundation for the complete political and legal control of colonial rule over India. With this centralisation of Colonial India started. Charter act of 1853 was the last charter act as till then Britishers had full control over India but an incident happened which took away the sleep of British government. That incident was the ‘Sepoy Mutiny’ (The First War of Independence)in 1857. This lead to the Government of India Act of 1858. Later Indian Councils Act of 1861,1892 and 1909 enacted for the more indirect involvement of Indians in British government. On January 9th, 1915 Mahatma Gandhi arrived in India. Later Gandhi Ji took leadership of the Congress in 1920 and began escalating demands until on 26 January, 1930, the Indian National Congress declared the independence of India. The British did not recognise the declaration but negotiations ensued, with the Congress taking a role in provincial government in the late 1930s.
Due to the continued efforts of Mahatma Gandhi and other freedom fighters , On February 20 ,1947 , the British Prime Minister Clement Atlee declared that the British rule in India would end by June 30th 1948 and powers would be transferred to responsible Indian hands. Later the partition took place as demanded by the Muslim League. The Mountbatten plan was put forth and accepted by Congress and Muslim League. With immediate effect Indian Independence act 1947 was enacted.
So 15th August is of immense importance as it marks the day of the triumph of Truth over Injustice and freedom of India from the shackles of slavery.
I hope that this introduction to the glorious history of India made you poud of the struggles of your ancestors for the formation of a Secular Democratic Republic of “India”.
Thank you J
